Municipality Seeks Community Members to Join Advisory Boards
Fort McMurray, AB – The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) is inviting residents to help shape the future of the community by volunteering and filling vacancies on several municipal boards and committees. There are 17 openings on nine different municipal boards.
These Council-appointed boards assist in governing municipal corporations and addressing regional issues. Current vacancies include positions on the Advisory Committee on Aging, Combative Sports Commission, Communities in Bloom, Downtown Revitalization Advisory Committee, Homelessness Initiatives Strategic Committee, Regional Advisory Committee on Inclusion, Diversity & Equity, Regional Recreation Corporation Board, Waterfront Advisory Committee, and Wood Buffalo Housing and Development Corporation.
“Your energy and perspective are needed to help advise Council and support important initiatives across the region,” said Mayor Sandy Bowman. “This is an opportunity to help the community and gain some great experience.”
The boards allow residents to contribute their expertise or perspective to specific areas of community development. Meetings are often accessible remotely by video call, and rural members are eligible for mileage reimbursement for in-person attendance.
The Municipality has encouraged applications from rural and Indigenous residents and welcomes submissions for multiple positions. Applicants not selected may be considered for future vacancies. Applications are open until February 16, 2025. More details are available at rmwb.ca/boards, or by contacting Pulse
