RCMP Investigating Homicide in Fort McMurray, Seeking Witnesses

FORT MCMURRAY. — The Alberta RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating a homicide that occurred in the Thickwood neighbourhood of Fort McMurray on Friday afternoon.

On February 7, Wood Buffalo RCMP responded to a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound near the 600 block of Signal Road at approximately 1:30 p.m. When they arrived, officers found the victim who was critically wounded. He was transported by Regional Emergency Services to the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators are seeking assistance from the public as they work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police are asking anyone who was in the area on the morning of February 7 and may have dashcam or security footage to come forward. Officers are particularly interested in video footage of the victim’s vehicle, a grey 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe.
