Wave of Discontent Spreads as More Alberta School Support Staff Vote for Strike Action

Labour Unrest Grows as More Alberta School Support Staff Vote to Strike

Labour unrest among school support staff in Alberta is escalating as five more CUPE locals have voted in favour of strike action. Support workers at Calgary Public (Local 40) and Calgary Catholic (Local 520) divisions, along with staff at Black Gold, Foothills, and Parkland school divisions, have given their locals a strike mandate. On Friday, Parkland support staff issued an official strike notice and began a work-to-rule campaign effective today.

This wave of job action adds to the ongoing full strikes by educational support workers at Edmonton Public, Fort McMurray Public, and Fort McMurray Catholic schools, with no resolution in sight. The growing labour disputes highlight mounting tensions between school support staff and Alberta school divisions across the province.
