RCMP Seeking Additional Victims Following MacDonald Island Park Voyeurism Incidents

Man Charged with Voyeurism After Cell Phone Incident at MacDonald Island Park

Fort McMurray, Alta. – A 39-year-old man is facing one charge of voyeurism after a February 18 incident in the universal family changeroom at MacDonald Island Park. According to Wood Buffalo RCMP, a patron was using a dressing room between 9:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m., when someone placed a cell phone under their stall door, possibly recording them while changing. The victim yelled, causing the suspect to flee. Staff at the facility were notified, but the police were not contacted until the following day.

During the investigation, RCMP discovered that staff at MacDonald Island Park had received multiple complaints throughout February about a male recording employees and patrons in change rooms. However, these incidents were not reported to the police. Surveillance footage helped identify the suspect, who turned himself into RCMP on February 20.

Hazem Abdelmaksoud, a 39-year-old resident of Egypt, has been charged with voyeurism. He was released on conditions after a judicial hearing and is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on February 26, 2025.

Havard Media News has reached out to the Regional Recreation Corporation, which operates MacDonald Island Park, but they have not yet responded to requests for comments.

Wood Buffalo RCMP, with assistance from the Specialized Investigations Unit, are continuing to investigate these alleged incidents. Police believe there may be other victims and are urging anyone who may have experienced similar incidents at MacDonald Island Park to come forward.

RCMP are also looking to speak with anyone who may have information on this or other incidents. Witnesses or people with information can call the Wood Buffalo RCMP at (780) 788-4040. To remain anonymous, tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
