Fort McMurray Airport Blends Art and Travel in Latest Digital Exhibit

“The Art of Connection”: YMM Showcases Local Artists in Digital Exhibit

FORT MCMURRAY, AB. — The Fort McMurray International Airport is set to launch its 2025 Digital Art Exhibit. The series will take flight on April 4, featuring the work of three local artists in a showcase that highlights the connection between art, travel, and community.

This year’s theme, “The Art of Connection,” explores how artistic expression brings people together through the shared experience of travel. The digital exhibit will feature the work of Lisa Smith, Rienna Davey, and Hira Noor, whose pieces reflect personal journeys, relationships, and the way travel bridges differences to create moments of understanding across cultures.

“Our community thrives on connections, whether through art, culture, or the experiences we share,” said Denean Robinson, President and CEO of the Fort McMurray Airport Authority. “The YMM Digital Art Exhibit is more than just a digital showcase of incredible local talent, it enriches the passenger journey, creating a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere for travellers.”

The unveiling will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Arrivals Level 1 of the airport. The evening will feature live acoustic music by local musician Chris Pottie and a selection of appetizers and desserts from YMM Earls Kitchen + Bar. Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear from the featured artists during a panel discussion and bid on exclusive artwork in a silent auction, with proceeds going to the Arts Council Wood Buffalo.

Liana Wheeldon, Executive Director of the Arts Council Wood Buffalo, said the partnership between YMM and the arts community continues to highlight the important role of local artists in shaping the region’s cultural identity.

“By showcasing local artists throughout the terminal on their digital screens, the airport not only enhances the travel experience but also highlights the vital role of the arts in tourism and community identity,” said Wheeldon. “Congratulations to the talented artists whose work will be featured – your creativity helps tell the story of our region to visitors from near and far.”

The Fort McMurray International Airport has been using its digital art exhibits as a way to showcase local talent while also enriching the travel experience. The initiative provides artists with a creative medium to reach a diverse audience while showcasing their creative work to a world-wide audience.

Tickets for the event can be reserved through Eventbrite. All proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction will support the Arts Council Wood Buffalo
