School support staff return Wednesday. So, now what?

The dust has settled, and it’s time for school to return to normal this week after both school support staff unions in Fort McMurray ratified their contracts on Monday.

In emails to parents, both divisions revealed their plans for a return to normal school operations. The Fort McMurray Public School Division says regular classes will resume on Thursday this week, and schools in the division will follow their contingency plan for Tuesday and Wednesday. Early Childhood Development programs will also pick up on Thursday.

In the Catholic Division, all programs that involved school support staff will return to normal operations tomorrow, including:

  • Specialized Classes:
    Independent Living Program (ILP)
    Vocational Education (Voc. Ed)
  • Individual Students who were not eligible to attend during the strike can also return full-time on Wednesday.
  • Early Entry Program (EEP) Classes will resume on Wednesday.

The only exception is Out of School Care Programs, which will pick up no earlier than Thursday.

Both divisions expressed their gratitude to school families in emails to parents for their patience, understanding and support during the months-long labour dispute.
