An Alberta Senator is calling the passing of the tanker ban bill a direct attack on Alberta.

On Thursday, the Senate rejected a committee’s report urging the defeat of Bill C-48, which would prohibit tankers carrying more than 12,500 metric tonnes of oil from docking along B.C.’s north coast to the Alaska border.

Senator Doug Black tells Mix News he feels this is really a ban on the oilsands itself and nothing else.

“Cruise ships, cargo ships, ferries, you name it – it’s not even subtle, it’s an attack on Alberta.”

Amendments can still be made before the third reading next week.

Meanwhile, Bill C-69, which would have made it virtually impossible to build pipelines, is being approved.

It was passed by the Senate not before 180 amendments were made.

“I’m told the projects will be able to be developed, that money will return to Canada, and we can be back in business,” added Black.

He adds if these changes aren’t followed then the Bill ‘won’t work.’
