Fort McMurray Heritage Society Get Set For Summer Camps

The Fort McMurray Heritage Society has a busy summer ahead.

The Heritage Village & Shipyard is offering 10 summer camps, including six pioneer themed camps, two Little Pioneer Preschool camps and two Drama camps.

Program Manager Tammy Plowman tells Mix News the camps are a great way for kids to spend their holiday break.

“Kids spend all that time in school, they need a bit of fun and it can be a long summer with all the kids at home so, I think it’s a great place to learn about our history and just have time to relax.”

Plowman feels there’s lots for kids to learn and experience through the society.

She notes it’s important for kids to learn about the roots of their community as early as possible.

“A lot of people don’t realize how deep our history is. The shipyard talks about our river transportation, which is really fascination. A lot of people don’t realize it was such a huge hub for our river transport. It’s actually one of the last remaining shipyards in Alberta.”

Plowman says there’s plenty of room available for kids interested in the camps.
