There are some games you just want to forget.

That was the mentality for the Fort McMurray Monarchs – following a 49-0 defeat at the hands of the Cold Lake Fighter Jets on Saturday… their worst loss in franchise history.

The loss drops the Monarchs to 1-2 on the season.

Despite the loss, Head Coach Kevin Garbuio tells Mix News they expect to pick up play as the season unfolds.

“It’s a little humbling,” Garbuio said. “We’ve been on the other side of a few of those blowouts so, we know how it feels. We can only just say it’s time for us to be on the other end, be patient and hopefully we’ll be back to where we need to be soon.”

Garbuio notes there’s not much to say about a loss like that, other than to watch the tape and move on to this week.

He feels the team being shorthanded played a big role in the outcome.

“All those little intangibles are there; we just need the numbers because we saw the week before. When we do have players, we were able to put up 40-plus points on Airdrie and they’re a pretty good team to do that against. So, I think we’re not far off, we just need those numbers.”

The Monarchs are at home this week with a Saturday night matchup against the Calgary Wolfpack at MacDonald Island Park.

Kickoff is at 7:00 p.m. at SMS Equipment Stadium.
