The Fort McMurray SPCA is changing its name.
The local animal shelter will now be known as the Wood Buffalo Humane Society.
Executive Director Arianna Johnson tells Mix News the new name reflects the change in their mandate.
“And that is to work with the entire region to assist in the education about animal care and animal welfare, as well as the care and placement of animals in their new forever homes.”
One of the bigger changes the shelter has made in the last few years is turning animal control back to the municipality, so staff can focus their efforts on education and care of animals.
Other than the name change, Johnson says their services are staying the same.
The rebranding will take place throughout the year with full implementation by January 1, 2020.
