Kinsmen To Host Oilers, Flames Alumni Game, Tryouts Underway

You have a chance to play with some former NHL stars.

In October, the Kinsmen and Kinnette Clubs of Fort McMurray are hosting a Battle of Alberta – Edmonton Oilers vs. Calgary Flames Alumni game.

Kinette member Celina Brooke tells Mix News they have six players coming up from each team but want to fill the rest of the spots with community members.

“We wanted to have tryouts so that we could have people in the community live their dream and actually play with some of these alumni players. We’ll have participants playing with the Oilers and we’ll have other play with the Flames.”

Brooke adds while alumni for each team has yet to be determined, they’ll be in touch with legends such as Glenn Anderson, Theoren Fleury and Mike Vernon.

She says this is a community event with all funds raised staying within the RMWB.

“We wanted to be able to boost the economy by utilizing venues within Fort McMurray. We wanted to have a family event that includes tryouts so that people can take advantage of this opportunity.”

The tryouts take August 1 and 12 at MacDonald Island Park.

The game itself will take place in October.
