Giants Hosts Inaugural ‘Bark In the Park’ Day

It was the dog days of summer at Shell Place over the weekend.

On Sunday, the Fort McMurray Giants along with K-9 Clubhouse took part in the first ever Bark in the Park Day.

The event allowed fans at the Fort McMurray Giants game to bring along their furry pals.

Sport and Wellness Manager for the RRC Charity Wiley tells Mix News the idea was adopted from the Majors.

“We actually got the idea from the MLB. Major league baseball does ‘Dog Days of Summer’. So, particularly we mirrored the Seattle Mariners and what they typically do with their fans and their ‘Bark in the Park’ day. So, here we are!”

With over 40 dogs in the park, Wiley feels this event will only grow in the years to come.

Wiley in an event like this – the number one priority is ensuring the wellbeing of the fans and the animals.

“Safety was number one. We just wanted to make sure that everyone who came here – both people and dogs were safe and having a fun day so, as soon as we all got on the same page as to what expectations were, we were able to put this together.”

Wiley notes she hopes this ‘Bark in the Park’ is the first of many.
