Wood Buffalo council is setting aside over $131,000 to ensure the community will host Rogers Hometown Hockey.
The two-day event will be coming to the community for a second time after it made a stop in November 2014.
Council met on Tuesday where they approved the funding which will be used for parking, labour, operations, and more.
Mayor Don Scott tells Mix News this money comes second to the exposure the event will give the region.
“We’re gonna get National exposure, we’re going to get the opportunity to thank Canadians for all the support during the fire, we’re going to get our rural communities involved.”
The festivities will include a live pre-game and NHL broadcast with Ron MacLean and Tara Slone, which will coincide with the Edmonton Oilers taking on the Arizona Coyotes.
It will also feature live entertainment, NHL alumni autograph signings and meet and greets, as well as different games.
Overall, Scott says he expects the community to enjoy Canada’s largest touring festival.
“We’re gonna get to see an amazing hockey game and have a great local event – it’s going to be a lot of fun for everybody, so this is exactly the kind of activity we want in this region.”
The event takes place from November 23-24.
