A conference is being held in Fort McMurray to help people learn more about financial literacy.
The Multicultural Association of Wood Buffalo is holding the one-day event in November so residents can understand all the aspects of money.
MCAWB Events & Volunteers Coordinator Idil Jeilani tells Mix News during this economic struggle there may not be a better time for this conference.
“Whether you make six figures or $60,000, you still need to know the basics of personal finances, so I think it’s important for everyone whether you’re a student, a senior, or just a general member of the public to come out and gain more information.”
The conference is an expansion of the organization’s financial literacy program which is an eight week free class teaching residents different topics around finances.
The class was meant to help newcomers to the area, however, they soon realized it had lessons for everybody to learn.
“When you sit in this class, there’s a lot of information that we don’t know and even me being in a financial industry, I still benefited,” said Leah Tacurda, Financial Literacy Committee Member.
The conference takes place at the Keyano College Elements Room on November 2.
