CN Rail Strike Ends, ‘Encouraging’ For Alberta

The CN Rail strike is over after one week of picketing.

The company announced on Tuesday they’ve reached an agreement with their 3,200 employees which would see the strike officially end on Wednesday.

Employees hit the picket lines last week as wanted to address issues they had with the company including safety, time-off provisions, and lifetime caps on benefits.

“We want to thank our customers for their patience and support and assure them that CN is preparing to resume full rail operations as soon as possible,” said JJ Ruest, CN President and CEO.

“I would also like to personally thank our employees who kept the railroad moving safely at a reduced capacity. CN and its people are committed to moving the North American economy by providing freight service that enables economic growth.”

The results of the ratification votes are expected within 8 weeks.

Positive News For Alberta

The end of the CN Rail strike is being seen as a good sign for Alberta.

Premier Jason Kenney and Multiple Provincial Ministers stated last week the province was losing million of dollars everyday the strike continued.

CN Rail reportedly transports around 170,000 barrels of Alberta oil a day.

Kenney went to social media where he called the agreement ‘encouraging’ noting rail services needs to get back up to 100 per cent as soon as possible.
