Alberta NDP Leader Rachel Notley has announced she is stepping down as leader of the party.
Notley made the announcement Tuesday to her caucus in Edmonton. This announcement will trigger a leadership race, but Notley says she will remain leader until a new one is chosen.
Notley was first elected leader of the provincial NDP in 2014, leading the party to its first-ever majority in Alberta in 2015. Notley and the NDP were defeated by the United Conservative Party in 2019.
