Santa Claus is coming to Fort McMurray.
Jolly Ol’ St. Nick will be driving his sleigh down Franklin Avenue on Saturday evening for the annual Santa Claus Parade.
The event begins on Riedel Street at 6 p.m., continuing onto Franklin and finishing on Main street.
Due to the parade, there will be multiple road closures and interruptions.
- Clearwater Drive (Main Street to Riedel Street ) from 1 p.m. – 9 p.m.
- Riedel Street (Clearwater Drive to Franklin Avenue) from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Franklin Avenue (Riedel Street to Main Street) from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
- Main Street (Franklin Avenue to Clearwater Drive) from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
As the parade passes, roads will re-open.
Barricades will be set up to prevent vehicles from accessing the closed roads.
Also, all downtown bus routes will have active detours in place from 5:45 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
The Main Street Terminal will be closed when the detours are in place. You can find more information about the transit detours on the RMWB’s website.
Meanwhile, you can celebrate the holidays with Mayor and Council before the parade at the Holly Jolly Party.
It gets underway at Jubilee Plaza at 5 p.m. and will include holiday greetings from Mayor Don Scott and the lighting of the community’s Christmas Tree.
