The RMWB has been looking for ways to save money, with decreasing revenue and increasing costs effecting its bottom line.
The RMWB informed The Canadian Union of Public Employees about this idea a few weeks ago, but now its putting those plans on hold for the time being. Instead the RMWB and CUPE 1505 will work together in a more collaborative approach to finding savings.
Back in February, the RMWB issued some layoff notices to employees as it intended to cut as many as 200 jobs , but those have been withdrawn as well. The RMWB was looking at privatizing, or contracting out services like garbage pick up, janitorial services and some park services as well as others.
When this news broke, CUPE Local 1505 and other unions were outraged. The union staged a protest in Fort McMurray as well.
Now the two sides are going to try and work together.
