The municipality is supporting Strathcona County’s attempt to get two federal bills changed.
Wood Buffalo council voted on Tuesday in favour of sending a letter of support to the county as they look to get Bills C-48 and C-69 updated.
Both bills have been called out for being anti-oilsands by the province and municipality.
“Just because a government might not make a decision, you still need to press every button you can to try and get them to see the light of day,” said Mayor Don Scott.
This is just one way the municipality has advocated against these Bills.
Council members have spoken directly to politicians in Ottawa, while Scott took part in multiple Senate hearings.
He says the government needs to understand that these bills do more harm than good.
“We want rules in place that really support Alberta and rules in place that will facilitate investment in our region and ultimately lead to jobs.”
