FORT McMURRAY, Alberta — The Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) has been recognized for its commitment to public health and safety-readiness.

Airports Council International recently awarded YMM formal accreditation for Public Health and Safety Readiness, making it the sixth airport in Canada to receive this honor. The accreditation highlights the airport staff’s dedication to the safety and health of passengers, guests, and staff.

Kevin Burke, CEO of Airports Council International, noted that the endorsement reflects the airport’s commitment to promoting health and safety in air travel.

“North American airports continually take proactive steps to ensure the health and safety of passengers and airport employees,” Burke said. “We are proud to recognize YMM with this important achievement of earning their PHSR accreditation.”

Denean Robinson, CEO of Fort McMurray Airport Authority (FMAA), expressed pride in reaching this milestone.

“I want to thank everyone for their efforts in creating our Public Health and Safety Management Plan, which made this accomplishment possible,” Robinson said.

Mayor Sandy Bowman also congratulated YMM.

“Our region is renowned for its strong health and safety culture, and it’s clear from this recognition that the FMAA is a leader in this area,” Bowman said. “We are tremendously appreciative of their efforts and congratulate them on this accomplishment as a key community partner.”

YMM has previously received numerous awards, including accolades for being the Cleanest Airport and the Best Airport of its size.
