Province issues Fire Advisory for Fort McMurray Forest Area

FORT MCMURRAY, Alberta— Alberta Wildfire has issued a Fire Advisory for the Fort McMurray Forest Area due to the very high fire danger and persistent warm, dry conditions.

Under the advisory, no new fire permits will be issued until conditions improve. Existing permits remain valid, but renewals will be reviewed individually. Safe wood campfires are not affected.

Wildland firefighters are making progress on 18 active blazes in the Fort McMurray Forest Area. In the past 24 hours, three fires have been brought under control, increasing the total number of controlled wildfires to five. The remaining 13 fires are still being managed.

Since January 1, 2024, 92 wildfires have burned approximately 245,216 hectares in the Fort McMurray Forest Area.
