Arts Council receives major donation from Syncrude

FORT McMURRAY, Alberta — The Arts Council of Wood Buffalo (ACWB) has received a major boost for its INCredible campaign with a $250,000 donation from Syncrude, operated by Suncor. This contribution brings ACWB closer to its $3 million goal to establish Arts INC, a downtown arts hub.

Arts INC will provide a venue for artists to discover, create, and showcase their work and serve as a center for residents and visitors to engage with the arts. The project, which is estimated to cost $16 million, has approved design and construction plans, with work set to begin soon. While development grants have been secured, additional support is needed to complete the goal.

Liana Wheeldon, Executive Director of ACWB, expressed gratitude for Syncrude’s support. “This significant investment not only advances the Arts INC project but also demonstrates a strong commitment to fostering cultural expression and economic growth in our community,” Wheeldon said.

Andrew Rosser, Senior Vice President of Operations at Syncrude, highlighted the project’s potential impact. “Arts INC will enhance opportunities for art and cultural expression, and Syncrude is pleased to support this innovative social enterprise,” Rosser said.

The Arts INC hub will be located in the former Landmark Cinema building in downtown Fort McMurray.
