The province is dealing with its second presumptive case of the coronavirus.

Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, spoke with reporters on Friday stating an Edmonton-area man in his 40’s may have the virus.

Tests are still looking to 100 per cent confirm.

The man returned from a business trip to Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio on February 28.

Hinshaw says the risk of the virus spreading remains low, however, this could change.

“With these recent developments, we are anticipating this risk may increase in the weeks to come.”

A Calgary woman is also dealing with the virus. The province is continuing their efforts to reach out to everyone she may have been in contact with.

Moving forward, the province is asking all travelers, no matter where they went, to monitor all their potential symptoms.

If people start showing any signs of the virus, they’re asked to self-isolate immediately and call Alberta’s Health Link at 8-1-1.

“We’re asking that returning travelers do not go to emergency departments or urgent care centres but rather call 8-1-1 to make sure testing happens either in assessments centres that Alberta Health Services is readying in case they are needed or testing in the person’s home.”

Anyone who feels sick, whether they have traveled or not, are asked to stay at home. People are being reminded to build regular habits of washing their hands.
